Opti-Med does not test for rare variants that are less that 0.5% (5 per thousand) in the general population.
While the genetic test is 99.9% accurate, the test methodology has limitations. The quality and quantity of DNA extracted from patients are depended on swab sample collection process, for example dietary or microbial influence which can impact the test process. PCR process can be influenced by exogenous enzymes or PCR inhibitors that may affect the assay result. There are a couple of SNPs that have repeat bases that have accuracy of 85% and amplification of DNA samples can be deterred due to repeat bases.
This test provides information on the metabolism and clearance of drugs. It does not provide information on pharmacodynamics of the drugs. For psychotropic and cancer medication, more comprehensive tests are required. For a comprehensive psychotropic pharmacogenetic test go to personalizedprescribing.com
